Strategic changes for Batmaid who bets on the employer status

The number one platform to find a cleaning agent in Switzerland, Batmaid is undergoing a profound transformation. While the company has always made a point of honour to fight the black market, the COVID-19 crisis has highlighted the limits of its current business model, particularly for the cleaning employees. For this reason, the company will propose to become the employer of some of the 2,000 cleaning agents as of January 1st, 2021.

"During the crisis, we noticed that the legal framework between employers and employees in the home cleaning sector was not well known. We are committed to changing that" , explains Andreas Schollin-Borg, CEO and co-founder of Batmaid.

Batmaid believes in the digitalisation, as long as it meets everyone's expectations, and that each stakeholder is aware of labour conditions and laws. To pursue its fight against precariousness, the platform must nowadays deliver a new form of work to cleaning agents: Batmaid will become their employer.

"From January 1st, 2021, using the services of a cleaning agent, be it man or woman, will be different in Switzerland." continues Andreas Schollin-Borg, CEO and co-founder of Batmaid.

The uberisation of the economy, which consists of making personnel available through platforms without employing them, has been strongly criticised in recent years, since it does not offer the workers a choice regarding their legal situation. By directly employing some of these agents, Batmaid will be able to provide them with more security.

Over the next few weeks, Batmaid will meet with every agent who uses its platform to explain the upcoming changes in 2021.

Reminder: since its inception in 2015, Batmaid has been connecting cleaning agents with private employers. The company also takes care of declaring and paying social security contributions of these agents on behalf of the employer through a trust mandate. The primary mission is to fight the black market as well as to improve the lives of its clients and their employees.
